Speaking to the Daily Mercury Mr Sharpe said "The reason why we have such hot temperatures in Queensland at the moment is because a trough has stalled on the NSW coast, pushing hot air north, While this weather pattern was common in summer and caused a lot of the high temperatures, it was unusual because of the length of time it would remain. The trough hasn't gone far north so it is sticking around. The northeasterly winds take over Friday but it will only be slight relief. The trough was being moved by the strength of a cold front pushing it west, but the front swung away towards New Zealand leaving the trough hanging over northern NSW. It's a very stable weather pattern, but it will be uncomfortably hot,” he said.
