The Sarina community mourns Frank & George Vella.

 

 

The Sarina community are rallying together after the tragic workplace accident claimed the life of two brothers, Frank and George Vella. 

 

A man’s’ lucky to be alive after being winched from a boat in the Coral Sea by the RACQ chopper. It's the second rescue in a week the Mackay based helicopter has done. The 50 year old Indonesian man suffering a severe medical condition and needing to be rushed to the Mackay hospital. He'd been ill for a few days, before the decision was made to airlift him to the hospital.

A driver who decided to use his handbrake while driving and causing a crash has been charged. The 26 year old Bakers Creek man charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle after an incident on Main street on FRIDAY. He's set to face the magistrate in February.

Mackay has gained over 70 doctors at three public hospitals. The interns taking place in an orientation week, familiarising themselves with the services and procedures of each health centre. The Mackay base, caboolture and Redcliffe hospitals all welcoming the new doctors. The Palaszczuk government making the announcement yesterday.

A new shared pathway is hoping to encourage the community to be more active. Vassallo Constructions starting works so that people can walk and ride together. It's hoped to make it easier for those wanting to ride and walk around town and to work. Councillor Karen May says we should see works beginning soon.

 

Mackay has proven itself as a viable host for big events, after the weekend's matches at Harrup Park smashed attendance figures for Brisbane Heat WBBL games. 9 News Mackay has more information.
