The Queens baton is on the final stretch is set to make its way through Mackay today. It's making its way down to the Gold Coast ahead of the Commonwealth Games starting on the 4th of April. So far the Baton has been making its way around the Globe for more than 380 days. Starting at the PCYC in North Mackay at 2:30 it will wind through to Bluewater Quay for 5:30 celebrations. Mayor Greg Williamson says he can't wait to see the bearers running through town.

Mackay to become a refugee welcome zone. A proposal from the Amnesty International Mackay Action Group to go before the Council tomorrow. Council agreeing to sign the declaration on Harmony Day. They welcome residents to come witness the signing to help celebrate multicultural diversity

The 2018 Safety Conference brings industry experts to Mackay. Held this Thursday and Friday the event is a platform for the resources sector to broaden knowledge on a variety of safety topics. One of this year’s opening topics will be fatigue. Discussing the result of fatigue related accidents in our local community. To register visit the Resource Industry Network website

Whitsunday Anglican School students are developing key skills with a new STEM subject. The Science Technology Engineering and Maths subjects are for years 5 to 8. They teach students to solve real world problems using technology. Currently students are doing a CoDrone Educational program. It’s a search and rescue mission using drones the students plan and code themselves

 

On a journey across the globe through her majesty's commonwealth nations, the Queen's Baton has today arrives in Mackay.
