 The Queen's Baton has today arrived to a warm Mackay welcome, with thousands lining the streets to catch a glimpse of the city's 35 baton bearers.

Rio Tinto sells off its 82% stake in Hail Creek Mine The deal with Glencore mine confirmed around 7pm Tuesday for a whopping $2.2 billion dollars. The sale includes the shares in Hail Creek plus its 71 per cent interest in the Valeria project. The deal is still subject to conditions with the handover scheduled for the second half of this year

School enrollments drop in Mackay. New student population data from Education Queensland revealing a 21 per cent drop at Pioneer State High School since 2014. While Mackay North State High drops 11 per cent in the same period. It comes following the opening of Mackay Northern Beaches State High which has seen a 135 per cent growth

Mackay Sporting and Community Clubs to share in new funding. The 12 groups will receive a share of almost three hundred thousand dollars from round 95 of the Gambling Community Benefit Fund. The largest dividends - thirty five grand each - going to Southern Suburbs Football Club, Slade Point Rugby Club, and Rangers Football Club

Mackay locals are being asked to join the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority committee. It's as nominations open up for the three year term where you can make a big difference to help promote awareness of our reef. Regional Manager Carolyn Thompson says it's about working together.

Mackay residents are reminded to get involved in Harmony Day. Cultural performances and morning tea on offer at the Dudley Denny City Library from 10-1. Today's key message being that everyone belongs
