Exciting news for Mackay and The Whitsundays with the announcement of a State Government visit. Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk yesterday saying her Government will come to town at the end of the month

 

Works commence on the Mackay Ring Road. Traffic Control in place from today for the next six months at the intersection of Stockroute Road and Cowleys Road. Temporary traffic lights will be in place for the duration

Locals are getting a chance to have a say on the future development of our part of the North. Its on in Townsville this morning, with reps from Mackay there too. Committee Chair John Alexander says REP groups from the regions are speaking up about how best to do that. It will be broadcast live at aph.gov.au\live

A ride to work breakfast is being hosted at Bluewater Quay. As part of the Greater Whitsundays Farmers Market. There'll also be two cooking demonstrations with festivities underway from 7 until 11 today

 

Mackay's waistlines have once again been dragged into the spotlight, this time by a Four Corners special on the sugar tax. But growers and local politicians have fired back, saying the proposed tax and many of the claims in the documentary, don't measure up.

LOCAL SPORT

Mackay Hockey players compete at the Under 15 Australian Hockey Championships. The Queensland side coming away successful with the Queensland Maroons Under 15s boys team claiming gold while the girls come away with bronze

 

Mackay's Peter Lister won't taste a second national title this year. His chances going up in smoke after his ten thousand dollar mountain bike was stolen just 24 hours before a key race. Taken from a shopping centre carpark while in Townsville for the 20-18 Marathon National Championship. Despite communities efforts helping him find the bike the structural damage proved too much

Partly cloudy. High chance of showers about the coast, medium chance elsewhere. Winds SE 15 to 20 km/h becoming light before dawn then becoming E/SE 15 to 25 km/h early in the morning. Overnight temperatures falling to between 14 and 17 with daytime temperatures reaching 24 to 29.
