The design of a new fishing pier at Hospital Bridge is nearing completion 18 months after the old pier was closed due to cyclone damage.

Cr Kevin Casey said that the new structure will be more resistant to severe weather conditions, including flooding.

The insurance claim for the Hospital Bridge pier was finalised in June and council employed consultant GHD to carry out the investigations and detailed design for the new structure, which is nearly complete.

Cr Casey said Council is looking forward to seeing local anglers drop a line at the popular fishing spot sometime next year, with works expected to start in May 2019.
