Shark Attack Victim in Mackay Base Hospital

A Tasmanian woman on holidays in the Whitsundays was attacked by a shark, leaving her in a critical condition overnight. The woman was transported in a serious but stable condition to the Mackay Base Hospital after being bitten while swimming in near Sawmill Bay yesterday afternoon.

An RACQ CQ Rescue spokesperson said "The woman has suffered significant leg and torso injuries in the shark attack incident. The patient was swimming when she was bitten, she was pulled back on to the (yacht) with significant injuries. She was then treated by a doctor who was on the yacht before crews arrived, where she was transferred to a smaller dinghy and then winched by the helicopter." the spokeswoman said.

A successful drug operation has come to an end in Mackay. Operation Quebec Mason launched six months ago and saw Mackay Police targeting the supply of dangerous drugs in the area. Eighteen search warrants were executed in Mackay and Sarina allegedly uncovering Ice, Cannabis and MDMA worth more than $70,000. They also allegedly found almost forty thousand dollars in cash, stolen goods, and five illegal weapons

In just two short months North Queensland has strongly welcomed the Household Resilience Program. 360 households have already applied to be part of the project which aims to help Queenslanders living in Cyclone prone areas to upgrade and maintain their homes.
