A Tasmanian woman on holidays in the Whitsundays was attacked by a shark, leaving her in a critical condition overnight. The woman was transported in a serious but stable condition to the Mackay Base Hospital after being bitten while swimming in near Sawmill Bay yesterday afternoon.

An RACQ CQ Rescue spokesperson said "The woman has suffered significant leg and torso injuries in the shark attack incident. The patient was swimming when she was bitten, she was pulled back on to the (yacht) with significant injuries. She was then treated by a doctor who was on the yacht before crews arrived, where she was transferred to a smaller dinghy and then winched by the helicopter." the spokeswoman said.

A successful drug operation has come to an end in Mackay. Operation Quebec Mason launched six months ago and saw Mackay Police targeting the supply of dangerous drugs in the area. Eighteen search warrants were executed in Mackay and Sarina allegedly uncovering Ice, Cannabis and MDMA worth more than $70,000. They also allegedly found almost forty thousand dollars in cash, stolen goods, and five illegal weapons

In just two short months North Queensland has strongly welcomed the Household Resilience Program. 360 households have already applied to be part of the project which aims to help Queenslanders living in Cyclone prone areas to upgrade and maintain their homes. The program was started after the Palaszczuk Government took up their place in Mackay earlier this year. Speaking with locals and observing work still being done after Cyclone Debbie

 

The median house price across Mackay could be increasing within the next 12 months. Data from the REA GROUP showing that the average price here is $321,000. With more investment around resources, tourism and industry they expect more people to move here. However Chief Economist Nerida Conisbee says there are still some challenges for home buyers

The six week comp will kick off mid-October with dates yet to be confirmed
