  • Whitsunday Council will continue the free kerb-side collection of green waste but residents have a deadline of Monday April 10 to place rubbish on footpaths
  • Whitsunday Council have waived all car parking fees and time limits until further notice
  • Mackay Council is helping develop strategies to support local business and industry through the recovery phase in the aftermath of ex-tropical Cyclone Debbie. An Economic Disaster Recovery Sub-Group. has been formed to assess the economic impacts of the severe weather event.
  • Mackay Council is teaming up with Australian not-for-profit organisation GIVIT to provide assistance to residents affected by destruction caused by Cyclone Debbie. Anyone wanting to donate items can do so at GIVIT’s website givit.org.au
  • Mackay Council in Community Day in the Pioneer Valley planned for this Wednesday (April 5) will go ahead as planned and cyclone recovery will be firmly on the agenda. The tour will double as an opportunity to check how Pioneer Valley residents are doing in the aftermath of Cyclone Debbie.
  • There’s a team set up at the Sarina leagues club collecting donations for people that were badly affect by the cyclone. They are asking for donations like food, toiletries, water, baby food , Pet food etc. They’ll be there for at least the next couple of days. Contact: Ruth Gash 0402808247

  • Immediate hardship assistance: $180 per person up to $900 for a family of 5 or more.

    Eligible if you:

    • live or are stranded in the targeted activation zone
    • have suffered hardship as a result of the event
    • are unable to meet your immediate essential needs for food, clothing, medical supplies or temporary accommodation

    Essential services grant: $150 per person, up to $750 for a family of 5 or more. The grant is available for 7 days following the activation of the grant in your area.

    Eligible if you:

    • are directly impacted by the loss of one or more essential services for more than five days as a direct result of an eligible disaster
    • are suffering hardship
    • have experienced loss of electricity, gas or water

     

    Essential household contents grant: Grants of up to $1,765 for single adults and up to $5300 for couples/families available.

    Eligible if you:

    • live in a disaster affected area where this grant is activated
    • are uninsured or unable to claim insurance to replace or repair your household contents
    • qualify under the income test

     

    Disaster Recovery Allowance: Up to $560 in assistance for people in the Whitsundays area who can demonstrate they have experienced a loss of income as a direct result Tropical Cyclone Debbie. People have until September 30 to make a claim.

    Eligible if you:

    • are 16 years or older at the time of the cyclone and are not a dependent child
    • are an Australian resident or the holder of a permanent or Special Category visa
    • derive an income by working in the affected area
    • experienced loss of income as a direct result of Tropical Cyclone Debbie - March 2017
    • are not receiving an income support payment or pension such as Age Pension, Newstart Allowance, Farm Household Allowance, or a Service Pension from the Department of Veterans' Affairs for the same period you are claiming this payment
    • your income is less than the relevant income threshold amount in the fortnight following the loss of income

    Some assistance available includes:

     

    > Low interest loans of up to $100,000 for essential working capital or up to $250,000 to repair or replace damaged plant, equipment, stock or buildings.

     > Freight subsidies to primary producers for assistance with the movement of feed, building/fencing materials, stock, water, machinery and fuels.

     > Queensland Rural Adjustment Authority (QRAA) officers are now on the ground at Community Recovery Hubs to provide advice to primary producers, small businesses and not-for-profits about immediate financial assistance available to those affected. Free call 1800 623 946.

     > Information on all disaster assistance can be found on the Australian Government's Disaster Assist website disasterassist.gov.au and the Queensland Government's Disaster management website at disaster.qld.gov.au

     > The Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) has developed a Building and Tradie Assistance Register, as well as a Building Certifier Register, so that building owners, local government and insurance companies can find a local tradesperson for building recovery. The builders, tradies and building certifiers listed in these registers are appropriately licensed qbcc.qld.gov.au
