Negotiations are well advanced for an in-principle agreement regarding shared use of the Sarina Pool during school hours. Council CEO Craig Doyle held positive talks with the Director General of Education Queensland last Friday.

Mr Doyle said the department and council had agreed to move towards a shared use arrangement with the detailed documentation to be sorted as soon as possible, preferably in the next few weeks.

“We had really positive discussions and the department has shown a willingness to accommodate the Sarina community, which is fantastic” he said. Mr Doyle said the agreement should be finalised by the end of October.

“We have a few matters to resolve regarding procedures around when the pool is being shared use that need to be finalised.” Mr Doyle said. Schools will continue to have access for the next three weeks, due to prior bookings.

“We will use the next three weeks to draft up the necessary documentation and implement the signage required,” Mr Doyle said. “The outcome is a win-win for both parties,” he said.

The public can currently access the Sarina Pool after 3.30pm weekdays and from 8am to 5pm on weekends. The facility is also available to the public whenever schools are not using the pool between school hours.
