A truck carrying dozens of crates of live chickens has rolled in Melbourne.

The incident happened in North Geelong, with the truck overturned on Melbourne Road near Separation Street, according to Nine News.

Emergency services are at the scene.

The driver of the truck is a man in his 40s, and he has been taken to Geelong University Public Hospital.

It is understood that he has sustained an arm injury.

It is not known if any chickens have been hurt.

The road is closed in both directions.

According to VicTraffic, Northbound traffic is being diverted to Corio Quay Road and southbound traffic is being diverted at Separation Street.
