Victoria's environment watchdog will slap dockless bike-share operators with $3000 fines for every bike dumped on streets, thrown up trees and into rivers.

Operators will have 48 hours to remove bikes discarded on roads, and seven days for those left in waterways, or risk being fined.

"This new litter abatement notice that we've put on allows us to use the maximum powers within the EPA Act, so $3000 for fines should get their interest," Environment Protection Authority boss Nial Finegan told media on Wednesday.
