Cherry Bar owner and The Hot Breakfast's Melbourne music guru James Young says he’s planning to run for the office of Lord Mayor of Melbourne.

In a public Facebook post, Young canvassed support for his nomination.

“I’m 52,” he wrote.

“Its 2018.

“It’s time for me to do things differently.

“I am going to run for the Lord Mayor of Melbourne role.

“Nominations open 5 April.

“I hope you support my nomination?

“I have never been more serious in my entire life.”

Young is the most visible advocate for live music in Melbourne, championing the cause through Cherry Bar’s live gigs and the festival they host there, Cherry Rock.

Recently he unveiled a Bon Scott statue near his bar in AC/DC Lane — the street he pushed to get renamed from Corporation Lane in 2004.

The by-election for the office of Lord Mayor will happen in May.

Hear James Young on Triple M Melbourne's The Hot Breakfast, Friday mornings.
