Over a dozen iconic elm tress have already been removed along St Kilda Road to make way for the new Metro Tunnel Project.

Seven trees were chopped down yesterday and further six are set to be removed today near the Domain Interchange.
Almost 165 trees in total could be removed as as part of the project.

The works are also set to cause major disruptions on St Kilda Road over the next five years.
Including traffic diversions, boring machine noises and damage to the surface of road.

There will also be limited access to Park Street South Melbourne and to Domain Road.

Opposition Minister for Planning David Davis, has described the destruction as a 'travesty'.

Metro is ensuring every effort is made to minimise damage to the street.

New tram infrastructure on Toorak Road West is expected to maintain connections to South Yarra and the CBD once Domain Road is closed in July.
