Home Alone Kids Caught In House Fire In Melbourne's North

It has to be a parents worst nightmare... or parents worst mistake. Two young children have managed to escape with their lives, after their Heidelberg Heights home went up in flames this morning.

Emergency services were called to a house at Bamfield Road around 5am finding the rear of the residence engulfed in fire.

A 7-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl were home alone, with the girl managing to evacuate with her brother.

ABC News reported there were serious concerns about the children being left home alone overnight, and police were questioning their father.

The back of the home sustained moderate damage, and the fire is being treated as suspicious.
