A man and a woman have been stabbed near Flinders Street station this morning.
According to police, a fight between two groups broke out on the corner of Flinders and Elizabeth Streets at approximately 4.30am.
"It is believed an altercation took place between two groups which resulted in a man and a woman being assaulted with an edged weapon near the intersection of Flinders Street," Senior Constable Alistair Parsons said in a statement.
The man, who is understood to be in his 30s, has been taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
He sustained life-threatening injuries to his upper body.
The woman is at the Alfred Hospital in a stable condition.
She also suffered serious injuries to her upper body.
