Melbourne's free tram zone will be extended next month to increase access to major events.
Weekends from June 2 to June 17 will see the free tram zone extend to stops near the Melbourne Cricket Ground, as well as Wednesday June 6 from 4 pm onwards.
Dreamtime at the 'G, State of Origin and Queen's Birthday all fall within the first half of June, with all tipped for bumper crowds.
It comes with major construction works on level crossings on the Pakenham line, taking place from 29 May to June 17 and expected to heavily impact services.
Minister for Public Transport Jacinta Allan said it will bolster access to the month's major events.
"We’re building tracks, removing level crossings and upgrading signalling to get Victorians home safer and sooner," she said.
"The Free Tram Zone extension will help people get to major events while this vital construction blitz is underway."
