Police Looking For Bloke Stealing Donations From Funerals

Police Looking For Bloke Stealing Donations From Funerals Nine News

Police are looking for a man wanted for stealing donations from funerals across Melbourne.

The man, who is believed to be in his 50s, was caught on CCTV taking cash from donation envelopes at an Avondale Heights church on January 12.

This service was farewelling the father of a four-year-old autistic boy, whose family had asked for donations to help with the child's future care.

The man was not invited to the funeral, and is believed to be targeting funerals which advertise wanting donations instead of flowers.

It is believed that the same man has also stolen from a donation box at a funeral at Bundoora church on November 15 last year.

According to witnesses, the man entered the church with the funeral procession and took the box from the sign in table.

“There have been reports of a man fitting this description attending other funerals doing the same thing," First Constable Belinda Petrovska said.

“It’s disgusting this man is targeting grieving people at their most vulnerable.”

Anyone with information is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

The man has been described as Caucasian and 175 centimetres tall, with receding grey hair and tattoos on his upper left arm.
