Police have confirmed they are investigating a burglary in Melbourne's CBD, where a man escaped onto the roof.

Police and helicopters responded to reports of a man on the roof in Melbourne's CBD, between Bourke St and Little Collins St.

No arrests have been made so far, with police believing it may be linked to other burglaries nearby this morning.

"Police are investigating a burglary at a retail premises in Elizabeth Street this afternoon," they said in a statement.

"Members were called to the store situated between Little Collins Street and Bourke Street just before 1pm following reports of a man seen in the roof cavity. 

"Local police and airwing conducted a search for the man but no arrests were made.

"The man is described to be Asian in appearance, in his mid 20s and wearing black. 

"Melbourne Crime Investigation Unit detectives will investigate whether this burglary may be linked to other burglaries within the vicinity this morning."
