A large chunk of one of Melbourne’s busiest roads is closed this week.
Hoddle Street, the north-south arterial that connects Richmond and St Kilda to Collingwood and Clifton Hill, is shut between the Eastern Freeway and Victoria Parade.
As a result of the closure, Vic Roads says to expect an extra hour on your commute.
“From 12.30am Sunday 7 to 11.30pm Sunday 14 January, Hoddle Street will be closed in both directions between the Eastern Freeway and Victoria Parade,” a statement on the Vic Roads website reads.
“During this closure, more than 100 crew members will be working around the clock to strengthen the bridge over the Eastern Freeway and demolish and rebuild the centre of Hoddle Street, so we can add a third lane to the freeway entry.
“Delays of up to one hour are expected, so if Hoddle Street is part of your journey plan ahead to avoid this area, check real time travel advice and allow plenty of time to get to your destination. Disruptions on Hoddle Street will continue throughout 2018.”
Alexandra Parade, Johnston St, Gipps St and Langridge St all remain open.
The closure takes place while Lygon St is shut between Elgin and Princes Streets for tram works.
