The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for the southern region of Victoria.
A trough followed by a cold front will cross the state on Saturday night and Sunday morning, bringing with it intense winds.
Damaging north to northwesterly winds averaging 60 to 70 km/h and up to 90 to 100 km/h are expected to hit elevated regions on Saturday night and Sunday morning.
Even stronger winds are expected in alpine regions, averaging 70 to 80 km/h and reaching maximums of 110 to 120 km/h.
The warning is for people in the Central, East Gippsland, South West, West and South Gippsland districts and parts of North Central, North East and Wimmera districts.
Melbourne's expecting a top of 26 on Sunday with the chance of a thunderstorm and showers early, after a forecast top of 33 on Saturday.
