Shane Warne, Bunnings Sausage and Vegemite have all been proposed as names for the new underground Metro Tunnel stations being built in Melbourne.
The Melbourne Metro Rail Authority copped more than 50,000 suggestions over the course of the competition, with names ranging from the humorous to the more serious.
The final decision will be left to a panel appointed by the Andrews Government which was specifically set up to stop a public vote ending up with the station being named after a joke, similarly to the UK polar research ship that was named Boaty McBoatface.
Sure enough, Station McStationface is among the suggestions.
The sites to be named are at the Domain Precinct in St Kilda, CBD South, CBD North, Parkville near Carlton and Arden in North Melbourne.
The more serious suggestions involved variations on terms like ANZAC, Memorial, Dunlop and Digger.
