A small kangaroo has died after being shot with an arrow in a sickening attack in Melbourne's north-east.
The female kangaroo, which the Leader says was just 12kg, was found on Lower Homestead Rd at 2pm on Monday and was rushed to Melbourne Zoo for treatment where she later died.
A 90cm hunting arrow – which had a hunting head tip with three razor blazes – had gone right through the top of her left leg and pelvis.
SHOCKING: rescuers believe the 'roo was shot at least 24 hours beforehand (Leader Local News)
Wildlife Rescuers volunteer Sharon Boccini told the paper she believed it was a deliberate act and most likely happened on a private property.
“It was absolutely a deliberate act,” she said.
“When she didn’t die, they obviously didn’t bother getting the arrow out of her and left her to suffer.”
