Drinking fountains are set to be installed at the 1,000 Steps Kokoda Memorial track, in a bid to stop litter bugs from leaving their empty water bottles lying around.
The popular spot for fitness fans and tourists in Ferntree Gully has been overrun with rubbish because there are no bins on the site.
New drinking fountains will be installed by next summer, as part of a $50,000 election promise by La Trobe federal Liberal MP Jason Wood and Aston federal Liberal MP Alan Tudge.
The amount of rubbish being left behind first became an issue when Parks Victoria released a statement saying their park rangers spend an estimated 100 hours a year cleaning up after disrespectful people.
A further $300,000 for a strategic feasibility study of Upper Ferntree Gully has also been proposed, which includes fixing the car park and creating a pedestrian/cyclist overpass.
