Police are on the hunt for Melbourne's serial work boot thief.
Last week we reported a surge in tradies having their tools stolen, this week we're alerted to a crook taking a liking to boots. Authorities believe just one bandit is responsible for the theft of an estimated $7000 in work boots, from front porches around Mernda and Doreen in overnight raids.
CCTV has caught a man stealing boots on at least one occasion, and he may have been in the act for at least 4 years. Police estimate an average of 2 pairs of boots going missing each month. But that number could be a lot higher, with the possibility a lot of thefts don't get reported.
A trail of resident accounts recently uncovered on online community forums traced the raids back to 2013.
The thief usually strikes between 11pm and 7am, and has also hit Craigieburn and Greensborough.
Here's some of the images of the suspect, believed to be aged between 40 and 55 with short hair. He wore neat clothes and at times glasses and drove a silver 1989-1991 Ford Sedan.
