A Melbourne dad has tried stopping thieves from stealing his family’s two cars while wearing nothing but his underwear.
Upwey resident David Bourke said he was beaten repeatedly over the head yesterday with an unknown object in the moments after he caught two people in the garage, making the split-second decision to jump into one of the cars as they sped off.
“I was in my undies, scarily, next time I'll have my clean ones on,” he told Nine News.
“As my mum always says, if you're going to get burgled always have clean underwear on.”
The carpenter was left with a bruises, scratches and a black eye as he attempted to grab the keys from the stolen car as it drove along Rita Street.
He was flung from the car as it swerved a corner, with the thieves escaping with more than $3000 worth of work tools from the garage.
Police are hunting a Holden Rodeo but have located Mr Bourke’s burnt out Ford Focus.
A third vehicle, a work van, was left at the scene after the thieves were unable to take it, which forensic police have examined for fingerprints.
Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
