Good News: State MP Leslie Williams (Centre Right) joined local police for the announcement, including Superintendent Paul Fehon (left).

It's today been announced $1.1 million will be allocated as part of the 2018/19 State Budget, for planning to commence on a new police station in Port Macquarie.

State MP Leslie Williams said a new multi-million dollar police station is a win for the Port Macquarie community and will boost the capability of local police to keep residents and businesses safe.

“Our Police do outstanding work as evidenced by the most recent quarterly BOCSAR report, which shows 16 of 17 major crime categories remained stable or fell in the 24 months to December 2017 across the state.

“Once built, this new station will further boost the capacity of our hard-working men and women in blue, and provide modern facilities and equipment they need to prevent and disrupt crime and ultimately keep the community safe,” Mrs Williams said.

Ms Williams was joined at the current station by Mid North Coast Local Area Command Superintendent Paul Fehon to make the announcement.

"The announcement is very welcome for us. This site was originally chosen in 1976, it housed 49 police officers then, but it's now housing 90 officers."

"We've well and truly outgrown this facility," he said.

Minister for Police Troy Grant said the NSW Government is absolutely committed to providing police throughout that state with the support and resources they need to do their job and keep NSW safe and secure.

“Only last year I met with local officers and toured the existing station, so I’m extremely pleased to be able to provide the funding needed to kick-start the development of the new multi-million dollar police facility," Minister Grant said.

Once a site is selected, it's hoped planning and construction will commence soon after. The new precinct is estimated to be worth in the range of $18 million.
