Nambucca Shire Council will ask Police and Emergency services in Macksville if they'd be interested in relocating their operations to a site North of the Nambucca river, should councillors adopt recommendations to be put before them at Thursday night's meeting.

Council staff have been discussing the option of establishing a new Macksville Hospital on RMS-owned land, as a second option to redeveloping the existing hospital at an estimated cost of $50 million.

The ball park estimate for the cost of a brand new hospital is 70 to 75 million dollars, and Council General Manager Michael Coulter says they'd be looking for public sector organisations to help foot the bill.

"Part of the exploration and investigation (of the case for a new hospital) is looking at what other opportunities there might be for public sector organisations to centrally locate to help spread to costs," Mr Coulter said this morning.

"If the recommendation to Council is adopted, the Council will be making enquiries with NSW Police about the potential to centralise the Nambucca Valley Police Command on that land at North Macksville."

Council meets at its Macksville chambers at 5:30 on Thursday night.
