Councillor Sharon Griffiths has put her hand up to run for Port Macquarie-Hastings Mayor.

Ms Griffiths today told Triple M she will campaign on Council's financial position, looking at how the local government can better use its reserves.

Unlike fellow candidate, Rob Turner, she will not be quitting her current position as a Councillor to contest the ballot.

It follows an unsuccessful bid for the mayorship at September's election, taking out 13.08% of the vote.

The by-election date is yet to be confirmed, after former Mayor Peter Besseling stood down yesterday to start a new job as General Manager of Birdon Marine.
