An elderly woman's allegedly been caught driving at more than four times the legal blood alcohol limit in Nambucca Heads.

Mid North Coast Police arriving at a Pacific Highway shopping centre around 2:30pm yesterday, after reports of a driver having difficulty maneuvering a Volkswagen camper van.

The 71-year-old woman was allegedly blew 0.233 on a breath test and officers say they found an open bottle of champagne in a drink holder inside the vehicle.

She had reportedly stopped in at the complex, after travelling from nearly 200km from Taree.

The woman has been charged with high-range drink driving to front Macksville Court September 13.
