New South Wales Police and Fire service officials have made impassioned pleas to Mid North Coast locals, following BOM predictions parts of the region are set to swelter through conditions around 40 degress across today and the weekend.

This morning, Rural Fire Service Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons says they're expecting extreme and catastrophic fire danger ratings for parts of the region on Sunday.

NSW Health’s Director of Environmental Health, Dr Ben Scalley, said with high temperatures forecast it was important that people kept up their water intake and avoided strenuous physical activity in the heat of the day.

Dr Scalley says signs of heat-related illness may include nausea, vomiting, dizziness and a lack of sweating.

RFS Superintendent Kam Baker says there'll be dangerous fire conditions across the region in the next few days, and people who live in fire-prone areas should be using the time now to get ready.
