High-Speed Crash Injures 6 North of Port Macquarie

A man has been charged after six people were injured in a crash on the state’s Mid North Coast.

About 7.30pm on Saturday, officers from the Mid North Coast Police District were patrolling on the Pacific Highway at Cooperabung, about 15km north of Port Macquarie, when they detected a silver Mitsubishi Lancer allegedly travelling 132km/h in a 100km/h area.

A pursuit was initiated after the Mitsubishi allegedly accelerated to speeds of up to 200km/h in a 110km/h zone before the sedan crashed into several cars.

Six people were taken to hospital with minor injuries, including two children, aged 9 and 11.

The driver, 19-year-old man, was not injured and underwent mandatory testing.

He was arrested and taken to Kempsey Police Station where he was charged with police pursuit - not stop - drive at speed, drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, and P1 driver exceed speed more than 45 km/h.

The man was refused bail and is due to appear before Port Macquarie Local Court today.
