Cowper MP Luke Hartsuyker is looking to quell talk about a possible Australia Day date change, saying January 26 should continue to be the day for us to come together and celebrate what makes us Australian.

The stance replicates that of the Government and Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.

It comes in opposition to comments made by Greens leader Richard De Natale, saying the date should be changed, and flags placed at half mast on the 26th.

Mr Hartsuyker says instead of celebrating what is great about Australia, a minority are attempting to change it into a day that divides us.
