Armidale Rd (pictured) works will soon be complete.

Two significant Macleay Valley roads that have been undergoing improvement works are set to be completed by the end of next week.

A 1.5km stretch of Plummers Lane, a major feeder road to South West Rocks, recently received the final seal of a $600,000 rehabilitation. This work, funded by Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) and Kempsey Shire Council, links to other sections that have been upgraded over recent years and means 4km in total has been rebuilt.

Council is promising safer travelling conditions after the road shoulder was widened, sealed and realigned to match the adjoining sections of road. Linemarking is the final step and is expected to be completed by January 20, weather permitting.

Works are also continuing on a 1.6km section of Armidale Road from Corangula Rd, with the section also undergoing realignment, widening and sealing. The work has been funded by the Federal Government’s Blackspot Program.

Council’s Manager of Engineering Works, Tony Green, said the initial seal on Armidale Road was placed before Christmas with the final seal expected to be finished by the end of this week, weather permitting.

“These projects were a high priority for council due to the previous condition of both sections and the amount of accidents that were reported,” Mr Green said.

“Work is progressing well and we are on track to have both completed by the end of next week. We would like to thank the community for their patience during this time.”
