Kempsey's new Ambulance station was officially opened this morning, by Oxley MP Melinda Pavey and NSW Ambulance Chief Executive Commissioner Dominic Morgan.

The new $3.3 million station is located on the eastern side of the redeveloped Kempsey District Hospital on Tozer Street.

Commissioner Morgan said the new station will be a considerable improvement on the current facility.

“The new station will support staff with modernised equipment and better facilities. It accommodates 20 staff and incorporates six ambulance vehicles, a fleet maintenance workshop and a separate manager’s office.

“New education and training facilities have also been included to meet the needs of paramedic education and clinical practice. This will be of great assistance in the important professional development of our staff and will enable us to continue to deliver a high quality emergency mobile health service,” he said.

Kempsey crews attend approximately 4800 incidents per year, the number increasing during large community events and holiday periods.

"This type on investment makes the job of paramedics a lot easier, and allows them to work to the best of their professional capacity in a modern working environment," Ms Pavey said.

"We'll (also) be building the new Wauchope ambulance station in the next two years, and that will also be-co-located beside the hospital."
