The northern end of Horton St and Town Green East will soon benefit from major facelifts, with preliminary works commencing in the coming week.

The project will see the construction of a new Town Square (at the northern end of Horton St) and Stage 1 of an upgrade to the Town Green to ensure these spaces meet community needs now and into the future. This will result in far superior, more vibrant and useable spaces for the many community events, experiences and activities that occur.

Preliminary works to prepare for Town Square construction will commence on Monday 20 March, with some tree and vegetation removal and limited site excavations occurring during the following week.

During these works there will be restricted vehicular access to the Town Square loop, with additional disabled parking being provided in Clarence Street. Pedestrian access and access to businesses will be maintained at all times.

“Our aim is for the Town Square and Town Green to become more popular recreational spaces right in the heart of Port Macquarie, and act as major drawcards for locals and visitors alike,” said Council Director Jeffery Sharp.

“On any given day these areas are a hive of recreational, pedestrian and vehicular activity, with community events occurring including Tastings on Hastings, the Anzac Day ceremony, Christmas celebrations, Big Band Blast, BBQ and Blues, Park Run, regular markets and Ironman Australia,” Mr Sharp said.

Further construction on the new Town Square is expected to commence in June, with specific timing to be confirmed once a construction contractor has been engaged.
