Port Macquarie Hastings Council

Port Macquarie Hastings Councillors have unanimously opted to move into community engagement, on the proposed Port Macquarie Orbital Road.

Initial designs would see the road link Ocean Drive to Oxley Highway East to West, and Oxley Highway to Boundary Street North to South.

Mayor Peta Pinson said this was a great step forward in planning for our region’s future transport needs.

“The proposed Orbital Road is a critical piece of infrastructure that will provide a long-term solution for our growth, ensuring future generations can move around Port Macquarie safely and smoothly,” said Mayor Pinson.

The road could cost in excess of $1 billion, meaning State and Federal governement funding would be required.

It's a project first mentioned back in 2008, but Mayor Pinson is optimistic it could this time come to fruition, thanks to council's relationship with the other levels of Government.

She says there's a long way to go however, environmental imacts to be established, and with residents potentially affected being notified.

“We acknowledge that the final route may result in the need for some properties to be acquired in the future.

"This may cause anxiety for some members of our community and Council is committed to working with property owners, residents and businesses who have the potential to be directly affected by the project," she said."
