The community has gathered in Port Macquarie for the re-dedication of the War Memorial site, led by mayor Peta Pinson.

The ceremony was held at the Town Square this morning, coming following the relocation of the memorial.

To mark the event a plaque was also unveiled to signify the re-dedication.

It was formerly located on the Town Green, however the local RSL Sub-branch President Greg Laird said the community sought the move.

Sub branch secretary Gary Spencer was also on hand, to speak on the memorial's history.

It remains as a place for honoring the fallen, and those who have served our nation.

Mayor Pinson said it was an honour and a privilege to play such an important role in the event.

"The Port Macquarie war memorial has been a special monument for many years, with the first unveiling on the 30th of March 1921.

"The relocation sees the monument in close proximity to it's original position," she said.

It now takes centre stage in the upgraded town square to allow more space and access for memorial services.

The re-dedication comes in the lead-up to ANZAC Day, falling on the 25th in less than 3 weeks time.
