Two people have been arrested and remain in custody in Kempsey after failing to stop for police.

At 8:50am on Wednesday morning, a blue Ford Festiva with QLD registration plates was detected travelling at 140km/h in a 110km/h zone on the Pacific Highway at Collumbatti.

The driver failed to stop when directed. Police then attempted to intercept the vehicle near the Kundabung rest area. According to NSW Police, the driver allegedly braked harshly, conducted a U-turn and headed north along the highway before turning onto Mingaletta Road.

In an attempt to getaway, the driver allegedly rammed a farm gate on a private property, travelled along a dirt track, ramming a further two gates before police lost sight of the vehicle.

A witness with a four wheel drive assisted Police by conveying the Highway Patrol officer, the Police dog Mona & handler to the offending vehicle which had been abandoned.

Within minutes the NSW Police dog located both the offending driver & passenger in the middle of a swamp, both wet and cold.

They were arrested without further incident.

The male and female offenders were escorted back to dry land and assessed by NSW Ambulance before being conveyed to the Kemspey Police Station.

The vehicle was found to have been stolen from Albion, on Brisbane's northside on the 15 July 2018 and has since been found to have been allegedly involved in numerous incidents in Queensland.

The vehicle was towed to Kempsey Police Station for forensic examination.

Subsequent inquiries revealed that the 20 year old male driver has 4 warrants outstanding in Queensland and is wanted for other matters.

Both offenders are currently in custody and will be charged with a range of offences and traffic matters.
