We'll soon see a rejuvenated Westport park in Port Macquarie, upgrades have begun to increase safety, visual appeal and accessibility.

Incoming are 3 metre-wide shared paths, increased seating, new bike racks, better lighting and a range of landscaping improvements.

The work is beginning to see the Coastal Walk Master Plan come to life, aiming to provide a world class walking track running between Westport Park and the Tacking Point Lighthouse.

556 thousand dollars has been allocated to fund the Westport Park upgrade within Port Macquarie Hastings Council's  2018/19 Operational Plan, on top of that 240 thousand under the State Governments Restart NSW program.

Director Melissa Watkins said the community’s feedback was critical in the development of the future vision for the walk, and it’s great to now be able to get started and put those ideas into action.

Works will commence at Livvi’s Place Playground and continue in front of the Westport Club down to the Port Macquarie Marine Rescue building.

Pedestrian access to Westport Park will be limited during the upgrade, with site fencing and pedestrian detours to be installed to delineate the worksite and ensure the safety of park users.

The monthly Foreshore Markets will continue and the playground will remain open during the works, with the upgrade to be completed by November 2018, weather permitting.
