Heavily armed officers have raided 27 properties in Sydney and the ACT this morning following a record drug bust, with an estimated street value of $650 million dollars.

Police found more than a tonne of the pre-curser drug ephedrine in a shipping container at Port Botany on the weekend.

It's the biggest ever seizure of ephedrine in Australia’s history, which is used to make the drug ice.

Twelve people with links to bikie gangs have been arrested in the operation with NSW's top cop claiming authorities have "cut off the head of the snake of organised crime".

Detective Superintendent Deb Wallace says today the operation predominately occurred in south-western and north-western Sydney.

“So we’re looking at suburbs like Cabramatta, Fairfield, Bonnyrigg Rouse Hill, Londonderry, Penrith and Kurrajong,” said Superintendent Wallace.

The raids are part of an investigation into ice trafficking and supply involving bikie gangs including the Rebels, and Asian organised crime figures.
