Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has confirmed this morning that the US will honour an agreement to take on asylum seekers.

According to Nine News, 50 offshore asylum seekers will be heading to the US.

This is the first group under the deal that was brokered between Malcolm Turnbull and Barack Obama.

President Trump had originally criticised the deal during his first phone call with Mr Turnbull, and has also publicly expressed this sentiment.

President Trump has promised an extreme vetting process.

The people on Nauru and Manus Island who will be heading to the US will find out in the next few days whether they have passed the vetting stage.
