According to a report by AAP, the Australia's domestic intelligence agency (ASIO) has been inundated with applications from Aussies who want to be spies.

Roughly 20,000 people submitted an application last year.

There are currently 1880 people who work for ASIO, with nearly 300 people employed or placed on a merit pool list as a consequence of a big recruitment advertising drive in 2015-2016.

In response to the increased terror threat, staff protections have been upped, with duress alert tech and staff tracking support, as well as more armed AFP offices at ASIO headquarters.
