If Uber Eats has become a staple life hack for you in 2018, this Japanese tech company’s latest development may be your next big ticket purchase.

Researcher Jun Rekimoto of Rekimoto Labs has developed a sci-fi inspired “Chameleon mask” allowing its users to rent out surrogate “human Ubers” who will complete nominated tasks while you get to watch everything unfold at home, News.com.au reports.

“A surrogate user wears a mask-shaped display that shows a remote user’s live face, and a voice channel transmits a remote user’s voice,” Rekimoto Labs explains.

“A surrogate user mimics a remote user by following the remote user’s directions.”

Rekimoto says the design is based on their theory that a surrogate wearing the mask could imitate the physical presence of the remote user.

The company has already held an experiment where a user sent out a surrogate to retrieve documents, monitoring the reactions of the general public.
