A manual transmission “accident hazard” has seen Ford Australia publish a safety recall for a number of Ford Ranger models sold across the country.

In a statement published by the ACCC, the car maker says a number of Ranger vehicles and built from 5 June 2015 through 12 February 2016 fitted with manual transmissions could create issues changing gears and losing the ability to drive.

"The gearshift cable retaining clip may not be securely fastened, which could lead to the gearshift cables making contact with the rear driveshaft," the product recall reads.

Ford will reportedly write to owners of all affected vehicles regarding the fault.

Concerned owners are advised to contact their Ford authorised Dealership “for inspection and rectification”.

Affected vehicle identification numbers can be found on the ACCC website.
