There are new delays facing NBN installation, with faults and red tape leaving hundreds of homes with complications from the fallout.

Another 90,000 complicated connections have been put on hold as the two-stream rollout hits another snag, with some homes slated for an NBN HFC cable connection without existing infrastructure from the street now at the back of the queue.

According to a report by smh.com.au, the NBN's deal with Telstra means that other retail service providers are experiencing difficultly when left in this sort of limbo.

These homes are typically left without home phone and fixed-line access for months.

The main areas affected include Fairfield and Cabramatta in NSW; Glen Iris, Balwyn, Canterbury, Glen Waverley; and Ferny Hills in Brisbane and Perth's Atwell.
