Apple is following through on their promise to give their customers full “visibility” around the shelf life of their iPhone batteries.

After the tech giant admitted to reducing the power of CPUs in older smart phone models back in December, Apple CEO Tim Cook said the next update, due to be released in February, will keep customers fully informed, ABC reports.

“We’re going to give people the visibility of the health of their battery so it’s very, very transparent,” he said.

“This hasn’t been done before.”

While the new feature can be deactivated, Cook added that iPhone users were probably best placed to leave it on, which will also automatically communicate dips in performance.

He said: “If you don’t want it, you can turn it off.”

Back in December, Apple acknowledged the backlash they faced after confirming older devices had slower processors, offering a price reduction on battery replacements from $101 to $37, alongside the software update.
