Police have charged a NSW man with trafficking more than half a million dollars worth of the drug ice in his undies.

The 32 year old was arrested at Hobart Airport on Sunday as he got off a flight from Sydney, after being identified by a sniffer dog.

"A subsequent search detected the man in possession of a package concealed in his underwear," acting Inspector Marco Cosentino said on Monday, adding that officers allegedly found 522 grams of methamphetamine.

Police have charged the man with one count of Unlawfully Importing a Controlled Substance and one count of Trafficking in a controlled substance.

The man is behind bars after he faced Hobart Magistrates Court this morning and was remanded in custody.
