Australian woman Sara Connor is today expected to learn her fate over the death of a Bali policeman on Kuta Beach last August.

Along with her British boyfriend David Taylor, the 45-year-old mother of two is facing up to eight years behind bars charged with fatal assault in company.

They're accused of fatally bashing Wayan Sudarsa in the early hours of August 17 and leaving him to die.

Connor and Taylor claim the officer stole her purse and when they confronted him, the situation turned violent.

The Byron Bay mum says she was bitten on the hand by Mr Sudarsa while Taylor "in fear for his life" eventually struck the cop over the head with a beer bottle.

In the days after, the pair destroyed the cop's identification and burned the clothes they wore that night.

Connor's lawyers insist she is not guilty of fatal assault and should have been charged with destroying evidence, arguing she should be released immediately.

Taylor's legal team says he acted in self-defence, is young, has shown remorse and has good chances of rehabilitation.

Three judges at Denpasar Court will hand down their verdict and sentence this afternoon.
