They won't ship here.

Australian shoppers using Amazon's international site will be unable to place orders, with the retail giant stopping shipping due to new GST rules.

The company has today announced that amazon.com, the US version of the website, will no longer send goods to Australia from July 1, with shoppers instead redirected to the smaller amazon.com.au site.

The Australian version launched late last year, with some 60 million products available.

However, this is a modest amount compared to the 500 million available from the US site.

July 1 marks the date that new GST rules come into play, with 10 per cent GST applying to all online purchases shipped into Australia from overseas.

Before the change, GST only applied to items purchased overseas worth more than $1000.

"While we regret any inconvenience this may cause customers, we have had to assess the workability of the legislation as a global business with multiple international sites," an Amazon spokeswoman said.

The call not to ship overseas to Australia may see the use of geo-blocking software to avoid the ban.
