Australia has flagged an American style ban on laptops in the cabin of some international flights, may be introduced here.

Citing new security intelligence, in March, the US announced laptops, portable DVD players, tablets and cameras would need to be checked-in on flights from eight Muslim majority countries.

The affected airports include Cairo; Istanbul; Kuwait City; Doha, Qatar; Casablanca, Morocco; Amman, Jordan; Riyadh and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia; and Dubai and Abu Dhabi in United Arab Emirates.

The UK then signed off on the ban.

Asked about whether or not a similar measure could be introduced here, the Prime Minister left it open.

"The Government is aware of the changes that have been made made and you know we are looking at it very closely, taking into account all the information and advice we are receiving internationally and we're working very close with our partners," Malcolm Turnbull said.
